Town Hall of Callosa d en Sarria. De Amicitia have been collaborating with this local partner for many years. Since recent years the town hall is developing a policy of sustainable tourism which includes the recuperation of deprived environmental areas and cultural heritage.
Work: The Callosa Tourism Lab follows a hybrid approach to rural development, combining intensive manual labor with the strategic digitalization of sustainable tourism. In collaboration with the Town Hall, volunteers act as active contributors to the Fonts del Río Algar natural area, balancing physical conservation with the implementation of modern tools to manage high-impact tourism. Key responsibilities include: Manual Environmental Action: Direct maintenance of the Arboretum and the river’s natural surroundings. This includes clearing over-grown vegetation, weeding, and removing waste from footpaths to restore and preserve the trails. Strategic Visibility & Digital Implementation: A core part of the project involves social media content creation specifically designed to visualize and implement sustainable tourism. Volunteers will also participate in visitor flow analysis and digital mapping to help manage the site s environmental impact. Proactive Workshops for Outreach: Volunteers, guided by their campleaders, are responsible for designing and leading their own workshops. These sessions are focused on increasing the visibility of the project’s environmental goals. This requires a high degree of proactivity, as the team will develop these initiatives, alongside creative projects like murals or recycled art, to promote a more resilient and sustainable tourism model.
Accomodation and food: Volunteers will stay in a basic rural house located directly above the Tourism Office, a few kilometers from the village center. It features shared rooms, showers, and toilets. Mattresses are provided, but bringing your own bed sheets and a summer sleeping bag is mandatory. Food is provided by De Amicitia. All meals are prepared collectively by volunteers in organized shifts under the guidance of the campleaders. Important: Please be aware that during the summer, weather conditions can be very demanding due to extremely high temperatures.
Location: CallosadenSarriaAlicante
Location and Leisure: The municipality is located in the province of Alicante, in the northern part of the Marina Baixa region, 10 km from the coast and 42 km from the city of Alicante. Algar Waterfalls at only 15 km from Benidorm and 3 km from the center of Callosa. This area was declared a Wetland protected by the Valencian Government. It is a park about the importance of water as an environmental resource, economical and cultural. The visit is a route through a circuit of 1.5 km in length along, where you can walk through the bed of the river Algar, see the spectacular waterfalls and the numerous sources, the "tolls" (pools of water) where you can take refreshing swims in crystal clear water, the old dam, the imposing century-old canal and ditches still in use. Apart from the Waterfalls, there are other interesting sites in Callosa like the cultural heritage of the town, old narrow streets in the center. Also, there are several beautiful hiking routes around Callosa. One of the most spectacular places is El Fort de Bèrnia. Not far from Callosa, you can visit a town called Guadalest which has an ancient castle. Also, Altea, another beautiful town near the sea can be visited. The beach is not far from the house and somedays, the volunteers can take a trip to the beach of Altea.
Airport: ALC
Requirements: The extra fee has be paid by card ( in the exceptional cases we can accept bank transfer as well) 3 weeks before the camp as a confirmation of participation. If we don t recieve the fee and the flight/bus tickets of the volunteer, we will consider that she/he will not attending to project and we will give opportunity to other volunteers that are on the waiting list. We have secured a partnership with Beniconnect, a transport company that will provide direct transfers for volunteers attending TEEN workcamps in Alicante province. Participants will be picked up directly from the airport arrivals and taken to the workcamp location in a private minibus (8 to 14 people per group). In previous years, transportation has been a significant challenge, as public connections to the locations where our workcamps take place are not very reliable. We believe that this new solution will make the journey much smoother, safer, and more comfortable for everyone.
Arrivals area holding a sign that reads: "DE AMICITIA VOLUNTEERS." Please note: The meeting time could be slightly delayed, but not later than 6:30–7:00 PM. Please inform us if there is any delay. If needed, the driver will contact you using the phone number you provided. A minibus will transport all volunteers directly to the workcamp site in Callosa d’en Sarrià (approx. 1 hour). Upon arrival, the campleaders will be there to welcome you and guide you through the introduction. Make sure your phone is on and reachable upon arrival at the airport. On July 11, transportation will be provided from the workcamp location to Alicante Airport, departing at 8:00 AM. The group is expected to arrive at Alicante Airport (ALC) between 9:00 and 9:15 AM. Please do not book an early flight, as it will not be possible to arrive at the airport earlier. Unfortunately, the driver or campleaders cannot assist with check-in procedures, so volunteers should be prepared to handle that independently.

Volunteers are highly recommended to bring their own devices (tablets or laptops) to assist with the digitalization of sustainable tourism and the design of their workshops. However, to foster team bonding and focus, the use of devices is not permitted during physical work hours in the natural area. We prioritize a digital detox during manual labor to ensure a full connection with the environment and the group.
