People in Need (Člověk v tísni) is a Czech humanitarian and development organisation active in more than 40 countries. It provides assistance in situations of war and natural disasters and supports long-term recovery through community development and education. In the Czech Republic, it focuses on social work, education, and human rights. The main goal of the workcamp is to support low-threshold clubs for children and young people. Volunteers help ensure equal access to services, strengthen social inclusion, and support positive development opportunities for young people. The workcamp contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities, and UN Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, through non-formal educational and preventive activities.
Work: Volunteers will support children and young people in a low-threshold club through leisure and educational activities such as games, creative workshops, tutoring, and homework support, while helping develop social skills in a safe and inclusive environment. They will also assist with the daily operation of the club, including preparing activities and supporting staff. Part of the work involves revitalising the club’s outdoor leisure areas. No special physical skills are required. In bad weather, activities take place indoors and focus on programme delivery and preparation. This is a day camp which means the children will be with you during the day and leave in the afternoon. There will be two work locations, one is in the same place as the accommodation, the other is 30 minutes away by bus.
Accomodation and food: Volunteers will stay in simple shared accommodation in one room and must bring their own sleeping mat and sleeping bag. The accommodation includes access to a washing machine, refrigerator, kitchenette, and Wi-Fi. Sanitary facilities are shared and consist of two toilets and one shower. Volunteers will prepare their own breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Location and Leisure: The workcamp takes place in Předlice, a socially diverse district of Ústí nad Labem combining an older village core with industrial buildings and apartment blocks. While parts of the area face social challenges, it is well connected to the city by public transport. The location is close to nature, including Střížovický vrch hill and Lake Milada, offering space for walks and outdoor activities. Mobile phone reception is available on site. Leisure activities may include a cable car ride to Větruše with panoramic views of the city, a visit to the Ústí nad Labem Zoo, and an excursion to Střekov Castle. Volunteers can also relax and swim at nearby spots such as the Milada and Brná swimming pools, offering opportunities for recreation and informal group activities.
