Saint-Genis-de-Saintonge is a charming commune in southwestern France, nestled in the heart of the Charente countryside and the famous Cognac region. This village is a historic partner of our association, hosting its very first workcamps as early as 1996! After a brief hiatus, the local community is eager to revive the intercultural dynamics of these projects. Following the successful renovation of the cemetery walls in 2024 and the priory boundary in 2025, we are returning in 2026 to continue the restoration of this wall. Our goal is to consolidate and preserve this unique historical heritage for future generations.

Work: The 2026 workcamp focuses on the continued restoration of the former priory s boundary wall, located behind the school along the stream. You will participate in rebuilding, reinforcing, and securing the structure while ensuring it blends harmoniously into the landscape. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn traditional masonry techniques, including stone cutting, assembly, repointing, and the application of lime mortar. This project is not just about preserving stones; it’s about transmitting ancient skills through intercultural collaboration.

Accomodation and food: Participants will stay in tents in the garden of Maison Bibard, a municipal house that will serve as our base for cooking, meals, and collective indoor activities. Showers are located at the nearby gymnasium (approx. 100m). Sleeping areas will be non-mixed; mattresses are provided, but you must bring a warm sleeping bag and a pillow. Food is provided, and meals are a shared responsibility: you will take turns preparing lunch and dinner. We prioritize local resources and environmental values, and we always offer delicious vegetarian and vegan options to respect everyone s culture and needs.

Location and Leisure: Location : Saint-Genis-de-Saintonge (17240), Charente-Maritime, 80 km from Bordeaux. Leisure : Life in the village is all about meeting the locals ! You will have many opportunities to connect with residents and local associations. Depending on the group s interests, we will organize excursions to discover the region’s treasures, such as the historic town of Saint-Émilion, the vibrant city of Bordeaux, or the coastal beauty of La Rochelle.
