The Angkor Thom Community Tourism project is a new initiative by Cambodian Youth Action (CYA), the Cambodian National Youth Center, and Leang Dai Commune, aimed at empowering local communities through sustainable tourism while preserving the cultural heritage of the Angkor Thom area. The project offers visitors authentic cultural experiences, including guided tours, eco-tourism activities, and locally made handicrafts. Volunteers play a key role in supporting these initiatives by assisting with tour operations, promoting local crafts, and organizing educational games and activities for children at the community kindergarten. This project provides a unique opportunity for volunteers to immerse themselves in Cambodian culture, contribute to community development, and support the growth of a sustainable local economy. Volunteers passionate about cultural exchange, education, and sustainable development will find this project particularly rewarding.
Work: Volunteers at the Angkor Thom Community Tourism project can engage in the following activities: 1. Promotion of Handicrafts: Helping local artisans produce and promote traditional handicrafts to visitors, contributing to the economic growth of the community. 2. Community Kindergarten Support: Organizing educational games, teaching English, and leading activities to support the learning and development of local children. 3. Eco-Tourism Initiatives: Participating in environmental conservation efforts, such as cleaning campaigns or promoting sustainable tourism practices. 4. Cultural Exchange Activities: Facilitating cultural exchange sessions with local community members and visitors to foster mutual understanding and appreciation. These activities offer volunteers a chance to make a lasting impact on the community while gaining a deeper understanding of Cambodia’s heritage and culture.
Accomodation and food: Volunteers will stay in a shared house with a host family, equipped with basic amenities for a comfortable stay. Each volunteer will have a mattress, pillow, blanket, and mosquito net. Shower and toilet facilities are available on-site. Meals are prepared by a local chef, with volunteers expected to help with serving, cleaning, and dishwashing. Those interested can also join the cooking team to learn local recipes.
