Work: Bridging India’s wide gender gap has become an important focus of development efforts, with NGOs and government programs placing women at the center of their initiatives. A key approach is strengthening women’s financial self-management through Self-Help Groups (SHGs), which enable savings, access to micro-credit, and collective decision-making, supporting women’s empowerment at the grassroots level. Long-term volunteers will gain insight into the social and cultural context of the community through interactions, workshops, idea exchange, and basic project surveys with mentor support. The project combines community service, development learning, cultural exchange, and reflection, and concludes with volunteers presenting the outcomes and impact of their work to their universities. Volunteers will work extensively with SHGs and other women’s groups to implement capacity building initiatives in their communities. Some of the activities they will be involved in include: Building capacity in computer literacy Raising awareness on health and hygiene Hands-on activities with the beneficiary community Documentation support for self-help groups Attend workshops
