Description: The London Wildlife Trust is the only charity dedicated solely to protecting the capital’s wildlife and wild spaces, engaging London’s diverse communities through access to their nature reserves, campaigning, volunteering and education. London Wildlife Trust manages over 40 nature reserves throughout central and greater London. They rely on volunteers to help manage these reserves helping to clear invasive plants, manage woodland, maintain fencing and creating wildlife friendly habitats.
Type of Work: Volunteers will work on different environmental projects with the London Wildlife Trust completing practical conservation tasks in the beautiful Sydenham and Dulwich Woods, working alongside local volunteers. Work may include woodland management, cutting and clearing grasslands, picking up litter, removing invasive species, hedging and improving paths. Work will be physical and it will be cold and possibly wet so please come prepared with waterproof clothing and good boots.
Study Theme: Volunteers will be visiting the beautiful Lesnes Abbey Woods (https://www.lesnesabbeywoods.org/), which is an ancient woodland, park and ruined abbey in South East London that offer plenty of interesting environmental related events. The group will also have the chance to meet the activists of the London South group of IVS/VAP.
Accommodation: Volunteers will be staying at the South London Scout Centre in the midst of woodland with no houses in sight! Dulwich is a pleasant, quiet corner of South London. The SLSC offers bunk beds and central heating. Sleeping bags and working clothes and shoes will be needed. The group will cook their own meals at the centre.
Approximate Location: Dulwich, South London.
