The NGO Association Togolaise des Volontaires au Travail (ASTOVOT) has more than 60 years of experience in international voluntary service. Each year, it welcomes many volunteers from all over the world on short, medium and long term volunteer projects (3 weeks to 12 months) in Togo. These projects allow the national volunteers (about 200) to work hand in hand with the international volunteers and to create a real intercultural exchange throughout the year. ASTOVOT is a member of the Coordinating Committee for International Voluntary Service (CCIVSUNESCO) and of the Network of Africa Voluntary Organizations (NAVO), and is in partnership with several volunteer organizations in Europe, Asia, the United States, Canada and Africa. Its projects focus on community development through the promotion of education and citizenship, health, social, environmental protection and intercultural learning, renovation and construction of socio-community infrastructures.

Work: The "Notre Dame de la Miséricorde" medical and social centre in Kpalimé has approached ASTOVOT for volunteers. There aren t many carers there, but they re always interested in learning about new medical practices and exchanging skills. This will also help to strengthen the expertise in tropical medicine of international volunteers who are interested in this field, and to confront the health realities of developing countries such as Togo. The volunteers will help the staff to treat and assist patients. The centre has analysis laboratories, general medicine departments and a maternity ward where the various medical professions can work. N.B: Volunteers are free to bring medical equipment (consumables or not). Volunteers are asked to bring a white coat, the same garment worn by medical staff. Work Description: ✔ Assisting nursing staff ✔ Consult patients and pregnant women (prenatal consultation) ✔ Perform minor surgery for minor accidents ✔ Weigh children, ✔ Participate in patient vaccinations; ✔ Carry out family planning sessions, ✔ Carry out biomedical analyses

Accomodation and food: International volunteers working on long to medium term projects are accommodated with Togolese host families. The families are chosen according to their proximity to the volunteer splace of work. They provide a private room for the volunteers as well as drinking water and 3meals a day (meals are adapted according to the diet of each volunteer). The volunteer remains independent and is free to go out and participate in activities of his/her choice. Living with a host family allows a total immersion in Togolese life to discover all its facets

The visa application must be made online via the Togolese government website. Consult the following link for more information: https://voyage.gouv.tg/ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION There is an infosheet for each project which contains information on the conditions of participation, contacts, necessary information on pre-trip preparations, arrival in Togo, transport, accommodation, planning of project activities...etc. The infosheet is sent individually to the volunteers after their registration to the projects. If you have any questions about a project or the Astovot association, please do not hesitate to contact us : Email : coordinationastovot@yahoo.fr workcamp@astovot.org If you are interested in several projects, please let us know. We will try, as far as possible, to combine several projects. It is usually best to send a list with an order of preference. If you choose a single project and it only occupies a few hours per day, it will be possible to decide how to complete your schedule according to your desires and interests and the needs of our partners. It takes about a month between the acceptance of the project and the arrival on site. Indeed, some administrative steps have to be taken in order to welcome you. Once your project has been accepted, we will send you an official invitation letter ASTOVOT doesn't have any insurance covering international volunteers. Volunteers should contact the sending organisation for more information. It is important for volunteers to have health insurance. We recommend not carrying a lot of cash. They should bring bank cards to make withdrawals when they need them for purchases.
