Type of Work: The volunteers will mainly help and organize programs in the children’s camp organized in the village. This work requires creativity and enthusiasm: volunteers will help in a children's summer camp organized for local primary school kids. Volunteers will organize various activities for them.

Study Theme: This camp is a great opportunity to discover Hungarian village life. There will be a workshop held by local craftswomen on straw art, gingerbread making and “nemezelés”. Besides that in order to get to know the local culture, volunteers will be introduced to local farmer families. Last but not least there will be an excursion to the Kiskunság National Park which surrounds the village, where volunteers can learn about the exceptional flora and fauna. On the foundation's website you can find further information about its projects and about previous workcamps: www.kingaalapitvanya.hu

Accommodation: The volunteers will stay in the primary school of Ágasegyháza. There are showers, toilets, kitchen. Beds are provided, but you should bring your sleeping bag. Food is included for the duration of the workcamp. Lunches will be prepared by the volunteers or local families. Volunteers will need to prepare their own breakfast and dinner, but ingredients will be provided by the foundation. Please, bring a recipe with you - considering the local, seasonal ingredients - so during these 2 weeks we could taste several national meals.

Language: English

Requirements: We expect the volunteers to be motivated to work with children. It is important that the volunteers should be open-minded, creative and flexible who can adapt to changes and who like to work in a group. We expect you to contribute with your own ideas! This voluntary camp requires an additional motivation letter.

Approximate Location: Ágasegyháza, Hungary, Europe. Ágasegyháza is a village in southern Hungary and has a population of about 2000 people. The nearest town, Kecskemét is 25 km away. The location of the camp is 100 km away from Budapest. The village is surrounded by the Kiskunság National Park.

Notes: Additional fee: Many SCI workcamps will have an additional fee of €50.00. This will cover - local hosting costs; International insurance costs of the volunteer; a small travel fund to enable disadvantaged volunteers to join projects; administration costs of SCI International. If you apply through an SCI branch, the fee will be included in the fee you pay to your sending branch. If you apply through a partner organisation you will pay the fee on arrival at the project; direct to the hosting branch or through a PayPal transfer system. When accepted on the project the host branch will give you more details of the various payment options.

Organization Description: Útilapu Hálózat is the Hungarian branch of Service Civil International (SCI), a volunteer organisation dedicated to promoting a culture of peace by organising international voluntary projects. Partner organizations of SCI are present in over 50 European, Asian, North-American and African countries. Útilapu was established by a group of enthusiastic youngsters in 1993 who had participated in SCI camps before. Our vision is a world of peace; social justice and sustainable development, where all people live together with mutual respect and without recourse to any form of violence to solve conflict. Our primary activity is organising summer voluntary camps in Hungary and sending Hungarian volunteers abroad. The participants of our workcamps come from all over the world and work together on a common project. In our workcamps, we put much emphasis on responding to local needs and making sure that our volunteers see the importance of their work. During the joint work and free time, volunteers discover each other’s traditions, way of living, problems and ideas, form long-lasting friendships. Living and working together with people of different backgrounds help volunteers to break down barriers and prejudices. However, Útilapu is active throughout the whole year. We organize workshops, cultural events, meetings and we offer a broad list of training courses and seminars accessible for all. Every voluntary project, meeting, exchange or training course has to be in line with the values of volunteering, non-violence, Human Rights, solidarity, respect for the environment, inclusion, empowerment and cooperation.
