The commune of Grand-Village-Plage is a charming seaside resort in the south-west of the island of Oléron, on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean and a long-standing partner of the association (since 1996). For several years now, the inter-commune and the commune of Grand-Village have been working to promote the habitat and way of life of Oleron from the 19th century to the present day. This project is based on the traditional eco-peasant house of Oleron, which is a wonderful illustration of the daily life of the islanders at the end of the 19th century. It is with a view to restoring this "eco-peasant" house in Oleron, which is intended to become a place of visit and experimentation, that the community of communes of the island of Oleron wished to set up a work camp for young volunteers.

Work: Supervised by a technical advisor specialising in traditional masonry, you will have to renovate and assemble the dry-stone walls that surround and delimit the spaces of this traditional peasant house. You will learn several techniques of traditional masonry and stone cutting, such as the construction of dry-stone walls. You will work on average between 5 and 6 hours a day in the morning.

Accomodation and food: Camping, in a two-person tent with all the facilities of the site (showers, toilets, kitchen, etc). You must bring your own sleeping bag and pillow. You will be provided with bicycles to go to the site and to ride around the island. There will also be a vehicle at your disposal to discover the beautiful areas of the region. Food will be provided for breakfast, lunch and dinner (you will have a food budget which the leaders will manage and communicate with you throughout the camp). You will prepare the meals, in turn, especially for lunch and dinner, while respecting environmental values and local resources, as well as the culture of each person (hot and cold dishes as well as vegetarian and vegan will be prepared).

Location and Leisure: In the middle of the sea, 35 km from Rochefort-sur-Mer, Charente Maritime. Leisure activities: On the island of Oleron, you can enjoy many water activities, such as fishing and surfing with the local clubs, the beach, seaside bike rides, beach-volleys... You can also visit cities such as La Rochelle and Rochefort. Activities and outings will be organised with the local population and in particular with the young people of the Grand Village youth centre. You will be able to take advantage of these activities to meet the inhabitants who are impatiently waiting for you!
