PROTECTING HERITAGE 1 | CONCF-3402A | 2023-07-12 - 2023-07-26 | RENO,ENVI | Age: 15 - 17
Since 2015, Concordia has a very strong partnership with the town of Clermont l Herault and local associations that promote the discovery of local heritage. The offices of our regional delegation are located in the town. We carry out several volunteer projects for young people in the area. We work together with volunteers from local heritage associations. The enhancement of the calade on the communal path contributes to the enrichment of the commune s heritage.
Work: Do you love heritage and nature and want to be part in a project with positive impact? Come and contribute to the development of a path in Clermont L Herault where the Caylus “calade” (traditional streets made of stones) is located. This path will take you to a hill that overlooks the town. The municipality wishes to maintain its paths for the pleasure of hikers. Discover the rich heritage of the town, with its archaeological oppidum, its “capitelles” (huts made of dry stones) and old dry stone walls, and its calades. Your work will consist of enhancing the site by carrying out small-scale landscaping work, clearing undergrowth and making small improvements to the existing calade. This work is therefore essential to maintain the path while allowing visitors, walkers and the curious people of all horizons to come and discover this rich heritage!
Accomodation and food: You will be sleeping in individual tents (bring your own sleeping bag and camping mat) at the Salagou lake campsite. The campsite has all the comforts for daily and collective life. The campsite is equipped with individual showers, toilets as well as a washing machine and wifi. You will share the various collective tasks and prepare meals together. A budget will be allocated to the leaders and you will participate in the grocery shopping and the preparation of meals, buying if possible healthy and local products.
Location and Leisure: Clermont L Herault is a charming little town located north of Montpellier in the South of France. With the advantage of a Mediterranean climate and a remarkable natural environment (Lac du Salagou, rivers of the Gorges de l Herault nearby), it also has a rich cultural heritage with its castle and cathedral. In the heart of a preserved environment, you can enjoy the pleasure of outdoor activities and make cultural and festive discoveries.
Train/Bus station: CLERMONT L’HERAULT bus station
Requirements: Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues happen on the project, volunteers will have to pay for them, and will then be reimbursed once back in their home country. Open to French, German and Spanish volunteers only. This project is supported by the French-German Youth Office (OFAJ / DFJW). Some volunteers from France, Germany and Spain may be eligible after the project for reimbursement of their travel costs upon the presentation of original tickets.
The meeting point is set at CLERMONT L’HERAULT bus station, on the 12th of July in the late afternoon. The exact time of the meeting will be communicated with the infosheet, sent at the latest 4 weeks before the beginning of the work. To reach CLERMONT L’HERAULT, you will have to go to MONTPELLIER. From MONTPELLIER Saint-Roch train station, you will have to take the tramway line 3, direction Juvignac, to the MOSSON tramway stop (about 30 minutes’ journey). Then from the MOSSON tramway stop, you can take a bus to the CLERMONT L’HERAULT “Gare routiere” bus station (about 40 minutes’ journey). There are different buses passing by CLERMONT-L’HERAULT like buses n° 661, 681, 662, 663, 666, or 668. More information about the tramway: https://www.tam-voyages.com/index.asp More info for the buses: https://www.herault-transport.fr/ If you are coming first by plane, remember that you will need some time to commute from the airport to the train station, therefore we recommend that you arrive early enough for you not to rush and have a stress free travel. If possible, please consider using low-carbon transportation (train and bus rather than aeroplane) for a sustainable international workcamp. The trains are open to booking about 4 months before the departure dates, accessible on the following website: https://www.sncf-connect.com/en-en/
Extra Fee: 200 EUR
