Very active in mobilising its youth and inhabitants, the commune of Saint Andre de Cubzac in the Medoc (12,000 inhabitants), 30 minutes from Bordeaux, is organising its first youth work camp in 2023 around the future House of Citizenship and the Environment. This is the first partnership with Concordia and the elected representatives and inhabitants are very excited to welcome young people from France and abroad !

Work: Help us transform the vineyards of Bordeaux! The Community of Communes of Grand Cubzacais has focused on a territorial food project around solidarity, education and health. In Saint Andre de Cubzac, the Community of Communes owns large vineyards that it would like to convert into a public garden, or whatever the residents come up with. The Community of Communes offer a workcamp related to the environment and the improvement of the territory. You will help improve the space and make it more useful to residents. You will help cut vines, remove stakes and barbed wire to clear the site for the project. This workcamp involves working on the ground and handling materials. Volunteers will help clean up the vineyard.

Accomodation and food: You will be accommodated in individual tents at the center of the city with all the necessary amenities. You will have at your disposal a collective room where you will share the different collective tasks and prepare meals together. A budget will be allocated to the group leaders; you will participate in the grocery shopping and the preparation of the meals, opting for healthy and local products. Handwashing of laundry.

Location and Leisure: This is a beautiful tourist region, which is especially famous for its vineyards and winemaking. Saint Andre de Cubzac is a place of tourism due to its geographical position on the Upper Gironde in Gironde. It is a commune of the South-West of France, rich of its wine activity. At 30 minutes from Bordeaux and a quarter of an hour from the citadel of Blaye, this place will allow you to discover the different landscapes and emblematic cultural heritages of the Gironde while enjoying the local heritage and Bordeaux.

Requirements: Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues happen on the project, volunteers will have to pay for them, and will then be reimbursed once back in their home country.

The meeting point is set at BORDEAUX St Jean train station on the 7th of July in the late afternoon. The exact meeting time will be given with the infosheet which will be sent at the latest 4 weeks before the start of the workcamp. From PARIS regular trains leave to BORDEAUX from Montparnasse train station, the journey lasts for about 2.5 hours. Please consider using low-carbon transportation (train or bus, rather than airplane) for a sustainable international workcamp. Bring a sleeping bag for cold weather, sleeping mat, work clothes, hiking shoes, warm and rain clothes, a flashlight but don't forget your bathing suit and sun cream. You can also bring traditional recipes from your home country/region, a musical instrument and games.
