In 2021, Saint Clair de la Tour hosted its first international volunteer work camp for the restoration of its church. The good mood of the group, the quality of the work done and the conviviality of the exchanges led the town to continue this experience. The municipality wishes to open its territory to the world and share its cultural wealth. The meeting with the local population is also important and there is no doubt that you will have the visit and support of the inhabitants who will come to meet you.

Work: Come and participate in a painting project in a school and bring your artistic inspiration to beautify the classrooms! The town of Saint Clair de la Tour has two schools. The nursery school is brand new and already functional. The elementary school which welcomes children from 6 to 10 years old needs a refreshment of the paintings in the various classes. With the help of a technical supervisor, you will repaint the colored walls of the classrooms, taking care to protect the educational material. You do not need any special skills for this job. Your motivation and your ability to work in a group will be sufficient to complete the project.

Accomodation and food: You will be housed in individual tents on a green space in front of the school. Within the school grounds, you will have access to showers and toilets. You will also have access to a kitchen for the preparation of meals that you can eat inside or outside. You will organize your leisure activities and community life together (cleaning, activities...) and prepare meals together. The products will be bought nearby. We wish to encourage vegetarian food with local and seasonal products while respecting the diets of the participants and to discover together the local cuisines. The school has a Wifi network which will be open to connection. On request, the town can provide a washing machine for occasional washing.

Location and Leisure: The town of Saint Clair de la Tour (3,500 inhabitants) is located in the north of the Isere department, in the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region. It has many small shops and benefits from a direct proximity to the city of La Tour-du-Pin (less than 5 km away), which allows a connection, from the train station, with Lyon and Grenoble. On the spot, you will be able to take advantage of a nautical center, of the proximity of the lakes of Aiguebelette and Paladru. The Dauphine, a green and hilly region, is an ideal place for hiking and cycling. It is also known for its gastronomy.

Requirements: Please note that it is recommended to know how to swim and to ride a bike. Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues arise on the project, volunteers will have to pay for them, and will then be reimbursed once back in their home country.

You will meet around 5:30 pm on July 12th at the train station of La TOUR-DU-PIN. A proposed itinerary will be presented to you on a detailed roadmap. Whenever possible, use low-carbon transportation (train or bus, rather than airplane) for a responsible and sustainable international work site.

Nights can be chilly, so remember to bring a warm sleeping bag and a sleeping mat or additional mattress for your comfort. In addition, bring waterproof clothing (fleece, raincoat...) for your walks. Don't forget sun protection (hats, glasses, cream...), a water bottle and your bathing suit for swimming (pools, water sports centers...). If you want to share a little bit of your culture (cooking recipes, traditional stories, unusual objects...), don't hesitate to bring a little piece of your country or region in your backpack and a small Bluetooth speaker to share your favorite playlist!
