BIG WOODEN GAMES | CONCF-6301A | 2023-06-30 - 2023-07-15 | CONS,MANU | Age: 15 - 17

Since 1993, Concordia has been organizing international workcamps with the city of Clermont-Ferrand, which shows how well this partnership works. The city has elaborated participative projects in cooperation with the local population. Every year, we come back to active neighbourhoods, where inhabitants created familial gardens and non-profit organizations develop their activities. This workcamp offers you the opportunity to participate in the life of the La Gauthiere district, where several Concordia workcamps have already been hosted to build wooden street furniture. This neighbourhood is undergoing a major urban transformation. You will be welcomed in the Nelson Mandela Space, which is located in a wooded park. This local structure is a place of cultural diffusion and popular education. Its organisation is based on three areas of activity: socio-cultural activities, accommodation for associations and a concert hall. You are expected by the team of animation of the local space that will provide a room for your bag and meals. Local young people will be able to take part in the workcamp alongside and help you discover their area.

Work: You won t be bored on this workcamp, where we offer you to participate in different construction and manual workshops! We invite you to participate in two different projects in the Gauthiere district. First, your objective will be to make large wooden world games that you will test during a neighbourhood party on the 11th of July. Then the games will be given to the social centre s animators, to be used with the children and young people of the neighbourhood. The second workshop will be organised by the organisation Nogozone, which has been organising participatory workcamp for several years with the inhabitants. Their 2023 project aims to create a sheltered space for sharing and conviviality. You will participate in the construction of a large wooden hut with a bread oven. Several tasks will be proposed: the making of the mud bricks for the oven, the assembly and lifting of the structure of the hut as well as small complementary DIY workshops. Working alongside a technical leader, you will learn to use hand and power tools and to do DIY.

Accomodation and food: You will be accompanied by two camp leaders throughout your stay. You will be accommodated at the two-star campsite “Les Sablons” in Pont-du-Chateau (with a swimming pool and activities), in one-person tent and with a marquee tent for socializing. The group will be sharing the cleaning chores and preparing meals together. The budget will be allocated to the group leader and you will participate in the preparation of meals, prioritizing products from the market and local producers. Free WIFI is available at the campsite and you will be able to wash your clothes by hand or in the machine at the campsite (extra fee).
