Background: The existence of life on
planet earth is possible only because of the
suitable environment we live in.It provides
food, shelter, air, and fulfills all the
human needs whether big or small.
Moreover, the entire life support of humans
depends wholly on the environmental
factors. In addition, it also helps in
maintaining various life cycles on earth.
The project area of Baddi is an industrial
area. Economically poor people migrated to
the area in search of jobs and established
their temporary settlements. These
settlements are devoid of even basic
amenities and hence called “slums”.
Industries and increased human population
is pressurizing the already depleting natural
resources and causing a serious
environmental, health & sanitation problem.
Work: Since the local community and
environment are inter-related and depend
on each other for survival this project aims
to protect our environment using creative
education and organizing micro community
Volunteers are expected to work with
communities and eco clubs in schools by
assisting and coordinating their activities
and in organising micro environmental
actions in coordination with women SHG,
village councils and schools in addition to
educate people on environmental concerns
like Global warming, climate change,
depletion of natural resources, etc.
In specific, they can work on:
 Reduce, reuse, and recycle to conserve

 Protection & conservation of their watershed
and help others understand the importance and
value of our natural resources.
 Conserve water
 Sustainable way of living
 Shop wisely - buy less plastic and bring a
reusable shopping bag.
 Use long-lasting light bulbs - reduce
greenhouse gas emissions. Also flip the light
switch off when you leave the room!

Why the extra fee?
RUCHI, like other NGO’s in India, is not financially supported by government to host projects related to
IVS. Hence all projects are self funded with a participation fee. Given the remote location and various
complexities we have tried our best to make it as affordable as possible for volunteers. Being a non-profit
organization we emphasize on transparency, below is how we spend collected participation fee.
