LITTLE VENICE IN SAVOIE 2 | CONCF-278 | 2021-08-04 - 2021-08-18 | RENO | Age: 15 - 17

The town of Chanaz welcomes us for the third consecutive year for an international volunteer workcamp adapted to teenagers. The direct proximity of the workcamp to the town hall, itself located in the centre of the village, gives this project a great deal of interaction with the local population who are concerned about the preservation of their heritage. You will be warmly welcomed by the municipal services and by the mayor of the town, who is passionate about Savoy’s history.

Work: Located on the Savières canal which leads peacefully to the Lac du Bourget, come and discover the charm of this small village full of character considered as the little Savoyard Venice. The old fortified house of Chanaz called the Great House of Boigne (Grande Maison de Boigne) is an old building from the 13th century which still stands today in the heart of the village. It now hosts the services of the town hall. This remarkable heritage site has undergone various renovations in the past. The commune, keen on pursuing the work begun many years ago, has decided to join forces with Concordia to carry out international volunteer workcamps for the restoration of a stone surrounding wall. Following on from the 2019 and 2020 workcamps, you will work on the final phase of the renovation of a stone wall surrounding the Maison de Boigne. You will clean the wall (removal of vegetation, cleaning of the old coating) and then work on the old masonry (stone assembly, lime rendering). Finally, you will make a roof covering to protect the wall from bad weather. You will be supervised by a technical campleader who will pass on his or her skills in old masonry. This work site does not require any specific skills. You will nevertheless have to handle stones that are already on site. Your motivation and your capacity to work in a team will be your assets to carry out this project.

Accomodation and food: You will be accommodated in a single tent at the Chanaz municipal campsite, which is located in the heart of the village. You will have access to sanitary facilities and showers inside the establishment. A kitchen will be set up in a communal room equipped for preparing and taking meals. This room can be used as a retreat in case of bad weather. The group will be supervised at all times by two campleaders, a group life campleader and a technical leader. You will all together take part in the organisation of group life (cleaning, activities, etc.) and in the preparation of meals, in turn, using the products that will be purchased nearby. We will favour local products and short cycles. Tastings of local products might also be possible with local producers.
