MUYONJO SENIOR SCHOOL

Background Muyonjo Senior School – Naluvule is a well-organized secondary school,
started in 2017 by a group of devoted, experienced and professional teachers.
The school aims at availing an all-inclusive and appropriate education to
generate a productive and self-reliant person.
The school also offers standard curriculum of all subjects, which are
examinable by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB).
Currently, the school conducts a vocational subject in information technology.
In future the school plans on starting other vocational subjects including
carpentry and tailoring.
The school has an enrollment of 40 students between 13 -19 years of age with
a capacity to expand in numbers approximately 300 in the next year 2020. It is
an Ordinary level School.
Muyonjo Senior is situated in a conducive environment along Hoima Road at
Naluvule in Wakiso District 8 kms from Kampala,2kms off the main road and
4.5kms from UPA Guest House. It has a teaching staff of 14 well trained,
competent, devoted, experienced and motivated personnel. They are not
affiliated to any particular religion thus all religions are respected.

Aim  To avail students with skills and bring up God fearing people of any

religious denomination
 Maximum utilization of the student’s time at school avoiding idleness and
disorderliness.

Activities  Formal classroom teaching to students.

 Care and assisting students in and outside classrooms .
 Training children in computer, games and sports and music, dance and
drama.

Volunteer task  Work with the rest of the staff to provide the above to the students in this

school.

Volunteer qualities  Emotionally strong. The volunteer work on this school requires a person

who has close feeling for students.
 Having skills in computer or information technology is an added
advantage.
 Teach students in languages (French and Germany or even Chinese).
 Command of good communication in English.

Working hours Muyonjo Senior School office hours are from 07.00am to 5.00pm. Working
with secondary school students to whom English is a second language and
computer knowledge an alien introduction calls for a volunteer ready to be
patient and innovative.

Transport The project is located 8 kms along Hoima road and 2kms off the main road. It
is 30-40minutes walk from UPA Guest House which is the nearest and
immediate accommodation facility. In case for transport it cost 2000 UgSh
using a boda boda.

Accommodation Volunteers to this project shall stay at UPA guesthouse in Nansana.
Comments from UPA The placement can be an opportunity to introduce a volunteer to Uganda’s
secondary education system. It will also be an opportunity to promote ones
culture through language teaching. One with skills in training students in
sports e.g. football, handball, music, dance, drama, any other activity outside
classroom is one easy way to win lasting friendship.
Everything today is put together on computer therefore training students in
Computer greatly helps them link with the outside world and empowers them
to contribute to building a justified global village and assist Ugandans explore
more potentials of using the Computer to enjoy a sustainable life.
Note:
All volunteers choosing school project should always remember to consider
the school holidays when the schools are closed in April, August – September
and December to Early February.

Communication Communication with School staff and of the students is preferably in English

Participants are required to pay a participation fee of Euro 500 (five hundred Euros) on arrival
for a period of 1- 3months and 80 Euros (eighty Euros) in advance for each additional month/s.
The fee covers pick up from the airport or bus terminal upon arrival in Uganda, on-arrival
training (orientation), guesthouse maintenance, accommodation and other operational utilities
like water, cooking gas, power, kitchen utensils and a monthly contribution for those living in
host families, project evaluations and administration costs. Volunteers are advised to have a
comprehensive study of our volunteers’ guidebook to acquaint themselves with the dynamics
of volunteering with UPA and our projects before making decision.
