9. UVDASTV018: WHV- BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK

Project Description:
Located in south-western Uganda, at the junction of the plain and mountain forests, Bwindi Park
covers 32,000 ha and is known for its exceptional biodiversity, with more than 160 species of
trees and over 100 species of ferns. Many types of birds and butterflies can also be found there,
as well as many endangered species, including the mountain gorilla. Project objectives:
The project seeks to mobilise youth, schools and local people in order to raise awareness about
the importance of protecting Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and become involved in climate
change issues by empowering their commitment to world heritage. The project also focuses on
the preservation of its flora and fauna.

UVDA 2020 SHORT TERM VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
Project activities: The volunteers will be involved in natural preservation activities such as
planting indigenous trees. Activities will also include awareness raising and creating a
documentary film, which will provide more visibility to the site.
There will also be an opportunity to interact with the local community via workshops, festival,
galas, debates and gatherings.
Type:
No. of Volunteers: 15 PAX
Accommodation: Volunteers will be accommodated in the nearby community houses with
option of a tent/camping site. Purely basic. A sleeping bag and mat are recommended.
Working language: The official language used at the project is English however knowledge of
the Lufumbira language is an advantage
Food: 2 meals, 3 coffee/tea breaks are served
depending on the location where you are working and the camp leaders guidance
Clothing: The area can be rainy and chilly warm clothing and rainy gears are recommended
together with tough boots and other jungle protection tools
Material: Any relevant information about Bwindi from other countries is welcome. An info sheet
is available on request.
