Short description of the project/projects: The Workcamp leader will work under the supervision of the project manager of the organization He/she will be involved in preparing, organizing, running and evaluating projects in Iceland related to visual arts, journalism and photographing. Those projects are organized with international volunteers and usually last for 12 days. In each group there are one or two leaders from the organization.
Every year WF Iceland hosts hundreds of international volunteers participating in projects all around the island. WF Iceland publishes a magazine called UNA, where people can read about the life of the organization http://wf.is/news/
In the beginning of each project, volunteers will receive an introduction about the tasks - afterwards we will choose a topic for the magazine. The group will take photos, create videos and conduct interviews with volunteers, local hosts and people living in the area. The outcome will be published in the UNA WF online magazine.
The volunteers will also document the work of the association in all the camps running throughout the same period with a photo-reportage and they will publish it on WF social media such as Facebook and Instagram.
At the end of the project, we will prepare the final version of the magazine and publish it online.
The workcamp leaders are also in charge of the social media of the organization Instagram, Facebook etc.
In the beginning of their stay, they will receive qualified training from the organization’s members. This training will capacitate them to perform the projects´ activities, which vary between cleaning beaches, planting trees and different kinds of environmental-related tasks to taking care of environmental awareness campaigns. At the same time, they will receive guidance in how to plan, organize and lead the projects, including topics as group management, conflict resolution, bookkeeping, development, leader

roles, intercultural cooperation, motivation, etc. They will also receive practical information about planning a project, spare time activities, first aid, etc.
In the end of each camp the project coordinator will be expected to produce an evaluation of the projects and their results. Also, the workcamp leaders will have a mid-term evaluation either with the project manager or the director of Worldwide Friends Iceland.
Activities: Our primary activity is organizing environmental-related projects where people coming from different countries perform voluntary work. In organizing them, much emphasis has been put on making sure the volunteers see that their work is important, they help a community in need, or they work for the protection of the environment. In the meantime, they themselves form a community and get in close contact with locals as well as with other participants of the project from different cultures and nationalities. They find out about each other's habits and ways of life, also getting an insight to the problems of the area and its inhabitants.
Accommodation and Food: During the workcamps the leaders will share a dormitory with several other volunteers in a house offering basic facilities. Beds are provided, however volunteers should bring their own warm sleeping bags. Food is provided, however everyone is expected to do their fair share of the cooking and cleaning. Since it is always nice to try new and different dishes, volunteers are encouraged to bring along their favorite recipes from home! There is internet connection available in all houses.
