SUMMARY: Help the local community by restoring paths all around the village and let them shine again! Seize the opportunity to gain useful skills and environmental awareness and build a new relationship with nature! #Teens #Walk&Sports #Nature #Paths #100YearsOfWorkcamps #lunarcamp PARTNER: ALA (Associazione Liberi Artigiani) is an organization active since 2009, that works to develop an educational framework for adults, youths and children, and is very active in the creation and promotion of various workshops. The educational approach and methodology used are a mix of non formal methods, art, creativity, and outdoor activities. The aim of the organization is to promote social inclusion, active citizenship, respect and environment protection, as to support the development of future citizens that are aware and critical, able to express their will and ideas, to exchange opinions, and lead a lifestyle respectful of the environment and natural resources. The organization works at both a national and an international level and cooperates with public entities, schools and NGOs. In recent years ALA and Lunaria worked together on more than 20 international workcamps for adults and teens, involving more than 300 international volunteers, promoting environmental awareness among the local communities of the Sabina region. By joining this workcamp you will contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals: SustainableCommunities SDG11 and ResponsibleConsumption SDG12. PROJECT: In the medieval village of Casperia, many workcamps have taken place over the years. Previous volunteers have helped to create several pathways immersed in nature all around Casperia. This project aims at the maintenance and renovation of those paths. Volunteers are strongly encouraged to take part in the numerous workshops available, to gain valuable skills and strengthening the bonds with other volunteers and the local community. This project is part of a “megaproject” involving 3 municipalities (Montasola, Casperia and Roccantica), consisting of 3 indipendent workcamps taking place at the same time, that will culminate in a large final event involving all the volunteers from every camp, working together to organize the event’s activities (food, music, dancing) and to involve the local community and institutions that will participate.

Work: The bulk of the work the volunteers will carry out will consist of the renovation of previously existing paths around Casperia: cleaning the path, painting signs, cutting and removing obstructing elements, retracing paths if need be. Volunteers will be able to take part in a wide range of workshop and formative activities. Workshops will focus on the manufacturing of typical local products according to traditional techniques, such as cheese, handmade pasta, bread, pizza, soap, etc. Several activities focus on movement and contact with nature: many excursions are organized (hiking, trekking, orienteering, night under the stars, etc.), in addition to the possibility of practicing several sports (climbing, low ropes, yoga, etc.). Additionally, there is the chance to learn farm animals handling and milking from the locals. Furthermore the volunteers will be direcly involved in the organization of 2 intercultural festivals with the local community, one halfway through the camp and one that will reunite the 3 concurrent workcamps in the region at the end of the camps.

Accomodation and food: Accomodation will be in the gym of a local school, fitted with toilets and showers. Volunteers will have access to a working kitchen and will cooperate in the preparation of meals, using available local and organic products, according to seasonality and sustainability. Volunteers will also have to share cleaning duties.
