Home on 1st – 5th of every month before go to work at the project site)
Thaksin University is one of the first higher education institute
in the south of Thailand. In 1990, Srinakharinwirot University,
Southern Campus, the former name of present Thaksin
University, offered a bachelor degree program in Economics
(B.Ec.), the first economic program ever offered in higher an
educational institution in Southern Thailand.
Later on November 1, 1996, Southern University was
upgraded and renamed as Thaksin University. With the
change of the university’s status, former Department of
Business Adm inistration and Department of Economics have
been merged to become a single entitle called the
Department of Economics and Business Administration under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Full approval
of the establishment of the department was endorsed by the University Council Meeting on September 20, 2003 making the
Department as a unit within the Thaksin University. At present the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration offers
four undergraduate programs: Bachelor of Economics (B.Ec.), Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) in Accountancy,
Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Management, and Retail Management. In addition, the faculty offers a graduate program
in Master of Business Administration in Business Management.
Currently, the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration employs a total 41 personnel, i.e. 31 lecturers and 10
support staff. In general, most Thai students cannot speak English even though they are a university student. It is the big
chance to communicate with the foreigner. They can destroy their shyness and let them learn the culture. Now it is not only
English is important to be in the world. The cultural diversity is also important.
Volunteers will be an English teacher, facilitator and friends to our
students in various English activities called socioeconomic and cultural
learning programme at Faculty of Economics and Business
Administration, Department of Economics, Thaksin University.
1. We aim to encourage our Economics students to practice
their English with foreigners at least once a week.
2. Each volunteer will be assigned to talk to our students on
different topics including
2.1) General information of his or her country and
2.2) The economy aspects such as important products, main exports etc.
2.3) Social and cultural aspects such as ways of greetings, leisure activities, food culture and so on
2.4) Other topics which related to volunteer's interests such as sport, tourism, life experience, hometown
3. Each volunteer could show some pictures related to the talk and then discuss or ask some questions to
Volunteers will be working with 2nd to 4th-year Economics students in these modules:
1) English for Economists 1
2) English for Economists 2 (2nd semester)
3) English for Economists 3
4) World Economy
5) Thai Economy (Tourism part)
6) Introduction to Economic Research (Interview practice)
Outdoor activities and excursion:
We sometimes take our students to do some activities in the community, the city center, and some tourist
destinations. By doing so, our students tend to be more relaxed and easier to learn and practice English more than in the
normal classroom. Volunteers can help them to improve their English communication skills in different settings and fun
1st semester – Mid-August to end of December
2nd semester – Mid-January to mid-May
Conversation English for Lecturer:
This coming semester, we would like to add one more activity for new volunteers by asking them to have an
informal English conversation class for our Thai lecturers. This activity aims to encourage our lecturers to practice English
and to familiarise them to English and we hope to increase their confidence in using English for their future career. The help
from volunteers will be grateful.
ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD
Volunteers will stay at accomodation in the university Nature environment, basic and simple.
Mattress, pillow, and fan are provided.
Thai toilet and bath.
Volunteers expect to eat Thai food. Food will be provided by the staff.
Hat Yai International Airport, Hat Yai Bus Terminal, and Hat Yai Train Station.
Samila Beach Songkhla Old Town.
The extra fee is 14,000 Baht/ Month.
