SAINT-PIERRE CHURCH IN LA FERTÉ-ALAIS | SJ77 | 2019-09-08 - 2019-09-28 | RENO | Age: 18 - 90

 

The town of La Ferté-Alais is located in a regional natural park called Gâtinais, in the valley of the Essonne river. The town has had many experiences in the past of hosting some international workcamps. La Ferté-Alais is very attached to these projects as it celebrates the local heritage and adds some extra spice to life, especially for local youths. Saint-Pierre church is an old chapel located in the town centre. Some international workcamps have already worked on the renovation of the church and its surroundings. The town wishes this year to continue the renovations.

Work: During the workcamp, you will build a wall around part of the courtyard behind the church. This work will make the courtyard and the church much more easily accessible and pleasant for the local population. You will discover some masonry techniques.

Accomodation and food: You will sleep in collective tents on the campsite of the association. Please bring along a sleeping bag with you. The campsite has bathrooms and showers, as well as a kitchen place. Food will be provided and cooked by the volunteers in turns.

Location and Leisure: Location: La Ferté Alais is approximately 50 km south of Paris, in the region of Essonne. Leisure activities: You will have the chance to enjoy the association’s campsite and discover the cultural and natural heritage of the region, alongside its natural park. You will also be given the opportunity to mingle with local young people. Other leisure activities will be organised collectively depending on the wishes of the group and the available budget.

This project should not be seen as a sightseeing trip to Paris. If you wish to visit Paris, you should arrive some days before or leave some days after the dates of the summer camp.
