WIMEREUX - A fort on the Opal Coast | CONCF-251 | 2019-08-07 - 2019-08-28 | ENVI | Age: 18 - 99

Between Boulogne sur Mer and Wimereux, on the coastline facing England, the Point “la Crèche” is a natural area protected by the Coastal Conservatory. Created to protect the port of Boulogne, the Point has been fortified thanks to the construction of a fort in the 19th century (on the site of a former Napoleonic fort), reinforced during World War II and partially destroyed during the battles in 1944. For the past 15 years, an organization of passionate people has been maintaining this heritage and organizing various activities throughout the year to promote the site. It will be the 7th workcamp in partnership with the organization « Fort de la Crèche ». On the 26th of August we will celebrate the 15th year anniversary of the organization and you’ll be put in charge with the preparation and the celebration of this event.

Work: This year we are continuing the work of previous years: valorization of the ruins, maintenance of pedestrian routes and so on. Moreover, with a volunteer of the organization, you’ll work on some paths to make them accessible for people in wheelchairs (removal of steps, creation of gentle slopes…). You’ll eventually do some painting as well.

Accomodation and food: In tents on the municipal camping site next to the beach.

Location and Leisure: Wimereux is located next to Boulogne sur Mer, on the very beautiful Côte d’Opale. When the sky is blue you may even see English cliffs.

Train/Bus station:

Requirements: Bring working clothes and shoes. For the accommodation in tents, bring your sleeping bag and floor mat. Please feel free to bring some food specialties, pictures, musical instrument from your home countries: things you like and want to share with the group and the local community!
