Description: Due to lack of equal opportunities in the small villages in Bulgaria, the group of young women between 15 and 30 years old is very vulnerable. After finishing school most of them do not continue their personal development or their education, because they do not have the mindset for the lifetime learning process. This workcamp was inspired by the workcamp executed last year beginning of July, when local women and girls from the village of Rumyancevo participated in upcycling workshops, where they have learned to work with internet and search for motivation and inspiration. This year’s project will step further and will provoke the local women and girls to think how they can make an impact for the community.

Type of Work: Because the goal of the workcamp is to empower women to take action, the exact work will depend on the issue that women agree to focus on. In the end of May, Club Rumeni will meet to discuss challenges that they want to work on during the workcamp. The workcamp activities may be creative workshops, as well as they can take a more physical form. We will publish the update on this as soon as possible. In the afternoons we will meet again for activities that aim to create bonds between women, help them open up, find their talents and interests. The workcamp will finish with an event for the whole community. Volunteers will be responsible for moderation of all activities, they will also take part in them. Everyday there will be a team of 3 people dedicated to watch the children of women.

Study Theme: Apart from the afternoon workshops, there will be discussions on the topics of women empowerment, gender equality and healthy body image organized for the volunteers. During the free time volunteers will have the opportunity to go for a camping trip, see the nearby caves and river, originating from a karst source, try rock climbing and sleep outdoors in tents or go for a walk around the river valley.

Accommodation: The accommodation will be in a school dormitory, 3-4 people in a room. Beds, sheets and sleeping covers will be provided. Volunteers will share one shower and 2 toilets. The conditions are rather modest. Food will be provided in a local restaurant, 15 min away from the dormitory.
Your own sleeping bag will be useful for the free days. If you have one, please bring it with you.

Requirements: In order to create safe space for local women to participate in the activities, feel comfortable and open up during the workshops, the workcamp is open exclusively to female volunteers.
