Name: SISSONE - Welcome to Champagne Picarde region!
Dates: 03/08 - 17/08/18
This project is born of a partnership with the community in the ambition of bringing the local youth and international volunteers together to meet and share a beautiful experience.
Several activities are already planned: tours of the cities of Reims and Laon and a visit of the « Chemin des Dames » where some really important battles took place during World War 1. Bathing and outdoor sport activities are also scheduled! This intense workcamp has for final goal the restoration of Sissone’s school which will allow the kids to have a great school year in a more suitable environment thanks to the work you’re going to accomplish!
Your main task will be to paint the different corridors and classrooms of the school. In some place, you may have to apply a new coating as well. Several municipality workers will be there to assist you!
Accommodation and food:
You will be accommodated in tents (boys and girls separated) in the stadium located in the middle of the town of Sissone. For the daily life, you will have access to the stadium equipment: kitchen, showers, bathrooms... You will share the daily tasks and prepare the meals together with the other participants. The budget will be allocated to the group leader and you will favour good products from the market and local producers.
Location and leisure:
Sissone is located between Laon and Reims, in the middle of the region called
« Champagne Picarde ». Sissone is a typical and very dynamic rural town!
Special requirements and remarks:
You will need clothes and shoes adapted to work that you don’t mind getting dirty! You’ll also need to bring a sleeping bag and a mattress to sleep in a tent (which will be provided).
Please, feel free to bring some stuff from your country, as typical food, pictures and musical instruments... anything you want to share with the participants and the inhabitants!
Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues happen on the project, volunteers will have to pay for it, and then be reimbursed once back in their home country.
