Description of Location
West Unguja is of the administrative district of Tanzania found in Zanzibar. Due to the size of Unguja Island, the host community is very close to the Zanzibar stones town (About 20km). Various social facilities like Banks, markers, shops are available. The community is accessible by both private and public transport throughout the day.
Description of the Project Some studies have proved that, Children spend more time in School than home. The physical environment of school buildings and school grounds is therefore looks like a key factor in the overall health and safety for Children staff, and visitors. School buildings and grounds are expected to be designed and maintained to be free of health and safety hazards, and to promote better learning. Friendly environment for Children will increase their performance hence contribute to their future. Children‘s‘ better learning environment is project designed to contribute in improvement of learning facilities at the school where kids are spending most of their time for better performance in academic and other life aspects.

Project Activities
Volunteers will be engaged in the following outlined activities:

Volunteers will be hosted in communal house in the community. Basic accommodation facilities will be provided. Expect to share rooms with or other volunteers from the same or other projects. (No mix of different sex in the rooms). Volunteers‘ relatives and friends can visit or staying over upon special approval. Bring with you; Mosquito net, Bed sheets (at least 2 pieces) and pillow if you prefer one, Towels, Rubber mattress and Mosquito repellent.

Trying a variety of foods from other cultures is part of UVIKIUTA‘s philosophy for an authentic experience in Tanzania, and may be both fun and challenging. Food on our projects generally reflects the local cuisine. Some foods that are part of a regular diet at your home country may not be available during the program. Vegetarians will be accommodated. However volunteers with more specific dietary requirements may need to supplement the included meals at their own expense. Participants with food allergies (e.g., nuts) must inform the organisation about the existence and severity of the allergy. Three meals per day are provided to the Volunteers at the accommodation. Meals in transit between airports and to/from Project, during tourism or outside designated project area are volunteer‘s responsibility. No reimbursements will be made for volunteers who miss their included meals.

Dimani is a community located in Zanzibar Island rural area. Inhabitants of this community include farmers, fishermen and petty business operator. The community is located about 7 Miles from the Centre of Zanzibar stone town making the community to be very accessible by both private and public transport. Small shops, market, and health facilities are available in the community. However things like banking and other big stoppings can be done in Zanzibar stone town.

Remarks (Other Information)
You are expected to pay a program participation fee of €250. Participation fee does not cover the cost of medical/health services, all types of insurances, cost of transport to the community (From you home to the project location and return), Business visas fee, airport drop off on departure day, pocket money, free/leisure activities and other personal expenses. However; participation fee does cover the cost of airport pickups on arrival, orientation on arrival, food and accommodation during the project, transport to project sites and other designated project activities as well general running cost of the program.

Special conditions

Arrival Terminal: Zanzibar International Airport Meeting point, date and time: Volunteers will be picked at River man Hotel- Stone Zanzibar, located behind Anglican Christ Cathedral (Former slave market) on specified above starting date of the project at 03:00pm. If you wish to stay in this hotel before or after the project you can book online and specify that you are one of the UVIKIUTA volunteers. Since this place is famous and accessible from both Zanzibar ferry port and Zanzibar International Airport- there will be NO airport pick up service. Provide your travel information at least seven working days before the project start. This should include Arrival date, time, flight or other means of
transport number and destination (Terminal).Please be advised that, we can ONLY provide pick services from the Riverman Hotel, Zanzibar stone town.
