World Heritage Volunteer in Vigan
Project and partners
Established in the 16th century, Vigan is the best-preserved example of a planned Spanish colonial town in Asia. Its architecture reflects the coming together of cultural elements from elsewhere in the Philippines, from China and from Europe, resulting in a culture and townscape that have no parallel anywhere in East and South-East Asia.
The unique features of Vigan provides a platform for young people from all over the world to experience first hand this cultural integration of east and west through direct action and immersion with the local culture. Despite the various efforts of the local government of Vigan, the interest of young people on heritage conservation is slowly diminishing. We hope that through the World Heritage Volunteer programs, we will be able to reignite the interest and strengthen the interest of young people locally, nationally and internationally that will paved the way to a more stronger collaborations and actions in the future.
The volunteers will be helping in the organizing of the 1st National Heritage Youth Summit to gather around 400 youth leaders all over the Philippines. Volunteers will be hosting, facilitating and managing several activities together with the local volunteers. Furthermore, there are interactive activities that are planned for this celebration.
