Workcamp is being organized by the association Environment protection engineers www.activity4sustainability.org with The Institute for protection of cultural monuments of Novi Sad www.zzskgns.rs and Foundation EKP 2021 www.novisad2021.rs This is the first of many workcamps which are planned to be organized in Novi Sad as a part of Novi Sad European Capital of Culture 2021 programme, and beside partners we are expecting inclusion of wide social community and significant media coverage. Environment protection engineers have been successfully organizing international workcamps for the past three years, with the help and support of YRS-VSS.

Work: This workcamp is being organized in Petrovaradin (Novi Sad) with an idea to preserve this heritage site from the 18th century. The goal of the workcamp is to renovate and rehabilitate an 18th century house, in the foothill of Petrovaradin fortress. The house is a pearl of the typical construction type for Novi Sad area. Besides international volunteers, the local volunteers will also participate and some experienced craftsmen as well, from which the participants will be able to learn a lot. Volunteers will get a chance to learn about different ways of construction and materials which were used in Vojvodina in the 18th century, and thanks to which the houses are still functioning 200 years later. On the house itself different carpeting, masonry, gypsum and other work will be done, all with the coordination and help of conservators from the Institute for preserving monuments of Novi Sad. This is the perfect workcamp for all of those who want to gain new practical skills in renovating and traditional construction. Volunteers will be helping with the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the site, help clean the location, prepare the materials for the construction and help set it up. The rehabilitation of the site will most likely continue after the workcamp will have finished, but the majority of the work will be done during the workcamp so that the volunteers could gain new practical knowledge and skills. The main idea is that this would be the first of many historical heritage sites that will be renovated in the following period 2018-2022 through international workcamps.

Accomodation and food: Volunteers will be accommodated in a hostel from which they will be able to reach the working location using the public transportation or by foot. They will stay in rooms with multiple beds with bathrooms. Breakfast will be organized in the hostel where the volunteers will be staying, while the lunch will be organized at the construction site together with the others participants. The dinner will be organized either in the hostel or somewhere nearby, and volunteers will have the option to prepare the food themselves with the help of locals.

Location: Petrovaradin

Location and Leisure: Petrovaradin is located in the base of the Novi Sad fortress (www.novisad.travel/en/ ) on the right riverside of the Danube river. It is connected by public transportation with other parts of the city of Novi Sad and with the city beach and pools as well. Nearby there are many museums and galleries, and bars, clubs that offer interesting nightlife in the centre of the city.
