Description: Maison des Associations asbl and Amitié Portugal-Luxembourg asbl are two well established associations in Luxembourg working on similar projects of integration, social cohesion and initiate the intercultural and intergenerational dialogue. Both associations are involved in integration of asylum seekers and refugees. The project aims to improve the integration and to promote better understanding between them and the local population. Among different projects, we started a community garden 3 years ago. It's open to the whole neighborhood and to refugees who are interested in gardening and meeting new people and experiencing new cultures. Our goal is to create a dynamics in the neighborhood and its surroundings.

Type of Work: Volunteers in this workcamp will be involved in the key part of our project - community garden in the north of the city. The core of the workcamp is a practical use of permaculture. We will construct shelves for planting made from palettes for the polytunnel, we will build vegetable beds, seed the garden and set up a rainwater harvesting system. We will also do some 'garden art' and make items like totems, bird nests, bird feeders and mosaics from clay and recycled/upcycled materials. We will also build a pizza oven for our final celebration if there will be some time left! But it's not only about the work of course! You will have an opportunity to visit the city of Luxembourg, discover other social projects involving refugees and learn about Luxembourgish traditions.

Accommodation: Participants will stay in the scout house in walking distance from the community garden. The house has separated dorms, sanitary facilities, fully equipped kitchen and a big garden. Volunteers will cook together in different groups. We will organize an international dinner so please bring some traditional food and/or drinks. Please bring your sleeping bag! We have some extra ones, let us know if needed.

Language: Communication language of the workcamp is English. But you can practise your French with us if you want! :)

Approximate Location: Luxembourg City

Notes: Please bring some old and warm clothes for the gardening. Check the weather forecast before the workcamp, weather conditions are tricky here in Luxembourg!
