A Tribal Tale

 

Heggadadevana Kote or HD Kote is a taluk or taluk headquarters in Mysore district, in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is one of the most backward taluks of the state, where most of the people in the area belong to the tribal community.

The Kabini Forest Reserve is 20 km away from HD Kote, 80 km from Mysore and comprises of the south-eastern part of Nagarahole National Park. Situated on the banks of the Kabini River, the reserve is spread over 55 acres (22 ha) of forest land, steep valleys, and water bodies. Its accessibility, lush green landscape surrounding a large lake, and sightings of herds of elephants and tigers make it a wildlife lover’s dream come true.

The Camp:

The work camps in HD Kote focus mainly on the issues of health and hygiene, water and water borne diseases. The participants create awareness among the locals and school children, to protect themselves from health related issues.
