1. Summary Working hard and healthfully with an organic farmer who is struggling to conserve beautiful culture and scenery in the countryside of Japan!

2. Background

This project is co-organized with "Sugiura Farm" that engages in organic farming for pursuing food
safety and an environmentally friendly society. The owner of the farm is Mr. Sugiura, who is the only
one man taking care of 2 hectares of farmland abandoned by local people because they became too old to keep working on the farm. He cultivates, harvests crops, even makes fertilizer and processes the harvest into products. He is working not only for crops, but also for conserving the environment and the beautiful scenery of living fields in the countryside of Japan.

3. Work Volunteers will engage the process of organic farming with duties such as cultivating vegetables and rice, weeding, harvesting and packing them for shipment.

4. Accommodation Volunteers will live by themselves in an old Japanese house. They might stay at local host's house depends on the circumstances.

5. Study theme Volunteers will get knowledge of organic farming.

6. Other activities Participation in the local events, many opportunities to learn the local wisdom, etc. Sightseeing, short trip (hot springs, temples and shrines).

7. Location It is located in Gose city, Nara pref. which is about 50 km southeast of Osaka.

8. Terminal

The nearest international airport is Kansai int. airport (Osaka) . To the project site, it will take about 2 hours by train from the airport. Volunteers need to arrive at the airport by 10:00 on the 1st day
and can leave there after 21:00 on the last day.

9. Requirement Speaking some English (Japanese is also welcome), strong motivation to work with the host, respect for the local customs and lifestyle, open mind and flexibility.

10. Participation fee

12,000 yen per one month (6,000 yen from the 4th month) to be paid on their arrivals. There is no
fee for vols. from the NGOs charging no fee in their LMTV projects to NICE vols.
