Background: Madrasah (Arabic language) simply means the same as school does in English language, whether private, public for any primary or secondary school such as Madrasah Ibtidaiyah/MI (elementary school), Madrasah Tsanawiyah/MTs (Junior High) and Madrasah Aliyah/MA (Senior High). Madrasah have played a major role in Indonesia. They emphasize cores values of sincerity, simplicity, individual autonomy, solidarity and self control. Most of madrasah provide low cost education for Indonesian citizens, as mostly the students coming from low to medium economic family background. The students attend formal school like any other students outside of madrasah and they learn general subjects (science, sport, English, social etc). In the madrasah the students are also emphasized to study more Koran and about Islam. The madrasah has possible components such as traditional religious education, vocational skills training and character development. The volunteer can choose of the madrasah’s level based on their interest. Those madrasah mostly previously used to receive volunteers.
Work: The role of the volunteer will be assisting local teacher in holding English subject as foreign language. Moreover, the presence of volunteers could give them motivation in practicing their foreign laguage knowledge. Intercultural learning in the form of dialogue, music and games could give the student better understanding to learn about another culture from other country.
Study theme: The volunteers will be introduced to the Indonesian culture and customs in general, with a special focus on the local particularities. Some cultural visits are also foreseen.
Leisure Time: During free time, the volunteers will have the chance to visit and explore culture and tourism spot near the project site.
Accommodation: The accommodation and food is provided by a local host family. The volunteer will share his/her room and the other facilities with other host family members. Facilities are simple and Indonesian style (no hot water, no washing machine). No vegan (strict vegetarian), flexible vegetarian is still welcomed.
Location: Java, Sumatera, Sulawesi, Bali, Kalimantan, Lombok and other islands in Indonesia (placement depends on the availability of the project site)
Terminal: Semarang airport, railway station
Special Requirement: No piercing on face, no visible tattoo, common hair style (no colorful, dreadlock) and never found guilty in a criminal case in home country or in another country for those who will work with kids and children. The volunteer should love to work with children, teenagers, open minded, be mature, respectful of local customs, tolerant, creative, flexible and sign the agreement. Pay extra fee partially for every visa extension at local immigration office if stay offer 8 weeks. Intake condition & restriction: No intake on Fridays and during Ramadhan; arrival should be on MONDAY; no pick up during weekend; no pick ups after 21:00 PM
Participant Fee: 300 € or 4.950.000 IDR/month
